WHY I WROTE IT
I have spent much of my  life working around people.
Hospitality, leadership, recreation, fitness, travel, family life, and years spent living and working in mountain communities have put me beside people on wonderful days and difficult ones.
Over time, I became interested in what allows one person to make another feel seen, respected, capable, safe, and welcome—and what causes those things to disappear.
Travel added another perspective. People can show care very differently and still make someone feel welcome.
And life has supplied its own lessons through decisions, mistakes, relationships, responsibilities, uncertainty, and trying again.
I did not write this book because I believe I have people figured out.
I wrote it because a few questions and patterns kept following me.
Again and again, they led back to trust.
The trust we have in ourselves.
And the trust other people gradually learn to place in us.
