El Capitan rising above Yosemite Valley at the end of a wonderful day of hiking through Yosemite National Park. After spending hours on the trail, we came out to this view. The enormous granite face of El Capitan towering above the forest beneath a clear California sky. A few photographs came from that moment, but this one captured the scale of the landscape especially well. There is something different about seeing a place like this after exploring it on foot. The distance traveled, the quiet of the trail, and the sheer size of the granite wall make you stop for a moment and simply take it in.
